When cracking heads on its MP1000 cone crushers brought an open-pit copper and gold mine to a standstill, the operation turned to us for a replacement head built and shipped in record time. In little more than a day, people from right across our plant pulled together to get the mine back in production.
The mine had been running several MP1000 cone crushers supplied by their original equipment manufacturer. As the machines moved beyond their original warranty, cracking in the OEM heads began to threaten reliability and output, and the operation came to us through a regional crusher parts dealer.
Within hours the order moved to the top of the queue. Warehouse support pulled the casting, project engineering drafted the print, the machine shop set up and machined the head, and maintenance put rigging on standby. In one continuous effort spanning day and night, the head was machined, dismantled, inspected against specification and loaded onto the truck the next morning.
As the team pulled together, the order delivered:
• Around twenty people, from six departments, working to a single deadline
• A replacement MP1000 head set up, machined and ready to ship in roughly six and a half hours
• A finished head delivered in little more than a day, getting the mine back in production
