skillsusa 640 Excel Marketing Team Participates in SkillsUSA
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry leaders working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. They provide programs and competitions that support career and technical education in our nation’s classrooms. The SkillsUSA Illinois State Championships were held on April 23rd – April 25th in Springfield. More than 1,500 outstanding high school students competed in 99 different trade, technical, and leadership fields.

The Excel Marketing Team was asked to lead the Advertising Design segment of the SkillsUSA competition due to their extensive expertise in the industry. Michael Heine, Director of Marketing, served as the competition supervisor and Shannon Smith, Graphic Communications Specialist, Kevin Beale, Digital Media Specialist, and five other area marketing professionals were judges.

Three fictitious advertising scenarios were created in order for students to demonstrate their skills in logo creation, advertising design, and digital mechanical recreation of a magazine advertisement. There were 24 talented students who competed, and the winner from Oswego High School will represent Illinois in the advertising design competition at the national SkillsUSA competition in Louisville, Kentucky on June 22nd – 26th.

It was a privilege for the Excel Marketing Team to be a part of the state competition, and they were honored to help students further develop their marketing, branding, and design skills.
