OLLI ‘Continues Education’ at Excel

Thirteen members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Bradley University (Peoria, IL) toured Excel in May. Machine Shop Manager, Jeff Kleiber, and Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Kyle Keefauver, welcomed the group and served as tour guides; Director of Marketing, Mike Heine presented an overview of Excel’s history and mission, and provided a video demonstration of our foundry casting process; Safety Manager, Jim Myers, also spoke to our guests on the importance of safety at Excel.

The tour provided an educational insight into our engineering, machining and quality processes. Kyle’s group was especially impressed when he introduced some of Excel’s history by demonstrating a ‘timeline’ of the different work centers in operation. OLLI Program Coordinator, Christie Haeffele, said that this was the fifth time that OLLI members have toured Excel, and she hopes for many more. She states, “The group members were amazed at how much Excel does and the size of the facility. We all learned so much in two hours….”

The Bernard Osher Foundation was established in 1977; the Foundation nationally endows 120 lifelong learning programs on university and college campuses across the country. The Bradley OLLI group consists of over 1,000 Peoria-area residents (age 50-98) who want to stay vital and active as they reach and enjoy retirement. Their program includes opportunities for educational travel, classes and lectures, cinema events and study groups.
