ICC Manufacturing Students Tour Excel

Manufacturing students from Illinois Central College recently toured Excel’s campus, led by Director of HR Steve Stewart and Safety Manager Jim Myers. The tour covered many aspects of Excel, from the foundry, to the machine shops, to the processing center.

Students were able to see, first-hand, how Excel machinists work in the CNC machining environment. Machinists were also available to answer questions the students had about working at Excel and in manufacturing. The students also learned about the technology behind Excel’s quality inspection processes, most notably the coordinate measuring machine (CMM). The tour completed in the engineering lab, where students were invited to ask questions about metallurgy or our engineering processes.

Excel prides itself on maintaining strong relationships with area institutions that place a focus on manufacturing. ICC’s visit allowed Excel to showcase the company to potential future employees, as well as drive their focus toward the manufacturing sector, which is vital to our regional economy.
