Excel Cuts Ribbon on Road Expansion

A ribbon cutting ceremony took place at Excel on Wednesday October 3 to celebrate the completion of the current phase of the Wagonseller Road expansion project. Wagonseller Road and Shady Lane, two roads previously undersized for heavy semi truck traffic, were expanded in a collaborative project among local and state governments. Excel’s President and CEO Doug Parsons is thankful for the new infrastructure that will support the company’s continued growth, noting the exceptional cooperation among state and local entities.

Local and state governments allotted nearly $1 million for the project, with another $500,000 coming soon. The additional improvements will begin next year with an additional resurfacing and widening of three miles of Wagonseller Road.

Many notable figures were present for the ribbon-cutting, including Cincinnati Township Highway Commissioner Ron Hawkins, Tazewell County Board Chairman David Zimmerman, Illinois State Representative Mike Unes and Illinois Senator David Koehler. Also in attendance was Congressman Aaron Schock, who announced the additional State grant.

As part of the Shady Lane development, Excel renamed the road, calling it ‘Excel Way.” The name change was announced at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and refers to Excel’s desire to conduct business “the Excel way’-by putting customers’ needs first.
